About kimberly Carfore, Phd:

Dr. Kimberly Carfore is a professor at the University of San Francisco in both the Environmental Studies and Theology & Religious Studies Departments. She teaches Nature Immersion—the university’s outdoor education course, Ecopsychology, Contemplative Ecology, Traditional Ecological Immersion, and Christian Feminist Theology—a community-engaged learning course. She has a PhD in Philosophy & Religion with a focus on Ecology & Spirituality.

Prior to her teaching career, Dr. Carfore was a wilderness therapy field instructor for a program for at-risk youth where she spent 336 days living in the wilderness, opening herself up to the profound rhythms of the natural world.

Dr. Carfore holds a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification (the outdoor adventure industry standard for safety), and is Ecotherapy certified.

She serves as the chair of the Religion and Ecology Unit of the American Academy of Religion and on the Advisory Group of the Yale Forum of Religion and Ecology.

She is a published author and poet. She has studied evolutionary cosmology under Brian Swimme, eco-grief work under Joanna Macy, animal ethology with Barbara Smuts, spiritual discernment with Mariana Caplan, and ecospirituality with Starhawk. She is passionate about rethinking our place as humans in an evolving planetary civilization and is passionate about helping women discover their unique role as we transition to this new Earth era.
